Life is full of ups and downs, and sometimes we find ourselves facing unexpected challenges that can leave us feeling anxious, stressed, and overwhelmed. In those moments, we have a choice: to worry or to trust. Choosing grace means choosing to trust that everything will work out in the end, even if we don't know how.

Worrying vs. Trusting

Worrying is a natural response to stress and uncertainty. It's easy to get caught up in worst-case scenarios and let fear take over. But worrying doesn't solve anything. It often makes things worse by draining our energy and clouding our judgment.

Trusting, on the other hand, requires faith that everything will work out as it should. It's not about denying reality or pretending that everything is okay when it's not. It's about acknowledging our fears and concerns while also trusting that there is a bigger plan at play.

The Bible is filled with verses that remind us to be strong and courageous in times of difficulty. Matthew 10:29-31 tells us, "Aren't two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." James 1:2-3 says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." And Philippians 4:13 tells us, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

God's promises help us find strength and courage to face our fears. We can trust that He is always with us and will provide what we need each step of the way. When worry creeps in, take a moment to reflect on His faithfulness and offer your anxieties up to Him. As Matthew 6:34 says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

He tells us in His Word that we can rest easy and rely on Him to handle whatever comes our way. So instead of worrying, choose to trust God's perfect plan and be at peace.  Spend time in prayer and meditate on His promises. Let Him lead you into a life of grace, joy, and freedom from worry.  By surrendering our anxieties to Him, we can experience the peace that only He can give.  In God's perfect timing, all will be made clear. All we need to do is trust Him and have faith.

Choosing Grace

Choosing grace means choosing to respond with love instead of fear. It means acknowledging our worries and concerns to God, but not letting them control us. Instead of getting stuck in a negative mindset, we choose to focus on the positive aspects of the situation and God's bigger plan for our lives. Maybe God is closing a door for another one to open. Perhaps He's guiding you along a different life path. Whatever His reason or purpose is, He is in control. So let God be God.

When we choose grace, we tap into strength and resilience. When we are weak, then we are strong. We recognize that challenges are opportunities for growth and learning, even if they're uncomfortable or painful at times. Psalm 27:14 reminds us that “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Romans 12:12 encourages us to “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” And James 1:2-4 says “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds.” Choosing grace means choosing to rely on God and believing that He will lead us through any difficulties in His perfect timing.

Grace is a powerful choice that allows us to extend ourselves compassion and kindness even in the most difficult situations. So next time you're faced with a challenge, take a moment to pause and breathe. Choose grace. God is in control and His ultimate plan will prevail.

By choosing grace, we set ourselves up for hope, growth, and resilience. So make the choice today that will lead you towards peace and joy tomorrow. With God's help, anything is possible!

Tips for Choosing Grace

Practice mindfulness

Take time each day to ground yourself in the present moment through meditation or breathing exercises. It is in these moments that we can learn to be still and listen to God’s voice within us. We can also make use of prayerful silence as a tool for discernment, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us in discovering the truth. Spend time meditating on Scripture, using these words as guidance for our journey.  Pray for insight and understanding that may help us to better discern God’s will. Ask the Lord to make known to you what is right, and He will answer your prayer. Ultimately, we must trust in God’s plan for our lives and accept that we may never know all of the answers. However, by praying, meditating, and staying close to His Word, we can confidently take steps in the right direction.  God is always with us, so let us trust in Him and seek His wisdom as we strive for discernment.

Shift your perspective

Instead of focusing on what could go wrong, try focusing on what could go right. Philippians 3:13-14 says “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” With this attitude in mind, Philippians 1:6 reminds us that “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” God is always with us, and He will help us stay on track if we trust in Him and have faith that His plan for our lives will be accomplished.  We can find peace in knowing that no matter what happens, God will bring about a beautiful outcome. All we have to do is trust and obey.

Lean on your support system

Reach out to friends or family members who can offer encouragement and support during difficult times. The Hebrews provide an example of how to lift each other and celebrate each other's victories. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near." Surround yourself with other believers who can share their own stories, provide spiritual guidance, and help you carry the burden. As Hebrews 12:1 says, "Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Spend time in fellowship, "do life" with other believers and share your journey. Together you can seek spiritual guidance and truth from God's word as Hebrews 10:24-25 admonishes.

By leaning on your support system and surrounding yourself with men of God, you will find it much easier to walk through the struggles. Hebrews 3:13 says, “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Through fellowship with other believers and relying on your support system, you can find strength in God's word to get through any obstacle. Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us to motivate each other with love and good works, and Hebrews 12:1 encourages us to run the race of faith with perseverance. Find strength in fellowship and rely on your support system during times of struggle!

Take care of yourself

Make sure you're getting enough rest, eating well-balanced meals, and engaging in activities that bring you joy. Eating healthy and balanced meals is essential for maintaining your physical health and energy levels. Exercise is also important to keep both the body and mind strong; it can help reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and increase mental alertness. Treat your body as a temple of God: Respect yourself by eating right, getting enough rest, taking care of your physical needs, and being mindful of how your thoughts and actions may be affecting your body. Show yourself grace by allowing yourself to take breaks, accept help from others, and forgive yourself for not always getting things right. God's grace is sufficient for us: Acknowledge that no matter what life throws at us, God's love and grace are more than enough to carry us through. He knows our needs and will provide the strength, courage, and peace we need to face any challenge or difficulty with grace and perseverance.

Find meaning in the struggle

Look for ways that this challenge could be an opportunity for personal growth or positive change. It's easy to become frustrated and discouraged in times of struggle, but remember that God works all things for the greater good. We should remain hopeful that this setback might be part of a larger plan and use it as an opportunity to explore our relationship with God and how we can rely on him for strength and support. Trust that whatever happens, God is in control and has a plan for you.

Conclusion

Choosing grace isn't always easy, but it's worth it in the end. By trusting in something bigger than ourselves and responding with love instead of fear, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and experiences that we might never have imagined otherwise.

So next time you face adversity remember "worrying vs trusting" - choose grace!
